Last year Samsung introduced the Galaxy Note 4 and the Galaxy Note 4 Edge. This year it’s taking a different approach and, on Thursday, instead introduced a new Galaxy Note 5 and then a non-Note device, the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus. It is essentially a much larger version of the Galaxy S6 Edge, but some upgrades here and there.
For one, it packs Samsung’s latest Exynos 7-series processor. You’ll also find a larger 5.7-inch Quad HD display and 4GB of RAM. Some storage options remain the same: 32GB and 64GB flavors will be sold, but Samsung won’t sell a 128GB model. At least not yet. Other features are also quite similar to the Galaxy S6 Edge: you’ll find the 16-megapixel rear facing camera, one of the best on the market, and the 5-megapixel front-facing shooter.
Also, Samsung’s custom software that takes advantage of the “Edge” still displays unique color-coded notifications when someone calls, ticker information for news and sports scores, and provides quick access to your favorite contacts. However, Samsung also added a new feature that allows you to use the edge of the screen to quickly access your most frequently used apps. You can customize them at will.
Other features include PMA/Qi wireless charging, fast wired charging, a large 3,000mAh battery, a fingerprint reader and support for Samsung Pay. You, of course, also get the same killer body, including the glass front and back panels and the aluminum frame. It’s a beautiful device, and Samsung hopes that multimedia fans flock to it, while productivity users head toward the Galaxy Note 5.
The Galaxy S6 Edge+ launches globally on August 21.
